Looks like I might be in need of a new PSU
People from the lan will remember after installing my second vid card for SLI I couldnt get the OC I had before and I had to clock the CPU back.
I've just gone on ExtremeTechs PSU calculator and put in everything in my rig including the HDD I broke and input the CPU speeds / voltage I was running begore and it recons that system will suck 555 watts :eek:, No wonder my 500 Watt PSU cant take it.
The think that shocked me is that it said my CPU was taking 190 watts of Juice, I thought they only took about 120 watts, no wonder my calculations are off :/
With the settings im running atm apparently its taking 524 watts, now the PSU is 500 watt but can peak at 550 so should be ok for the mo but looks like its taking a proper hammering :(.
What I was thinking to jsut be sure the PSU isnt up to the job is powering one of the vid cards from a second shuttle PSU I have, now the issue with that is I know how to power it on without a motherboard but I dont know how to power it on at the same time as the antec, would powering on the antec then the shuttle one hooked up to the vid card blow the card?
If so how do I get both PSU's to come on at the same time?
And if I do manage to do that and it works fine overcloked then what PSU should I go for?, apparently ones with single rails but with shed loads of amps on the rails are the ones to go for?
Personaly I have always thought that dual / multi rails are the best as long as theres enough amps on each rail?
