Which Ram For Asrock Dual 939 Mobo

Hi Guys i am building my 1st PC slowly as i cannot afford to do it all in one go. The system will be based on a Asrock 939 Dual Sata (pcie/Agp) and a Venice 350+ (waiting to buy). I still need the RAM and I was thinking of getting the Corsair value maybe 2x 1GB so i can add at a later date if need be, but am unsure exactly what type to get The PC is used mainly for Photo/Video editing (photoshop cs2/premeire)...but do play games sometimes ie (Battlefield/cod2/css) The graphics card i have is a AGP Nvidia Geforce 6800LE (Oc'd) but will update to a pci-e no doubt in the future!
I really would apreciate your suggestions & opinions on finding me the RAM i need.

I would highly recommend the corsair value select DDR400 (PC3200) 2x 1gb kit.

The type you need is just DDR400 (PC3200).

The motherboard doesn't really benefit from better ram, as I found out to my cost, as it doesn't do 1T timings stably. The value select stuff is great, and can be overclocked a bit if needed, but again a big overclock is limited by the motherboard anyway.

Any decent brand value RAM is fine if you don't wanna overclock. If you do however, you'll want some lower latency memory which usually costs more.

You'll want DDR400/PC3200 and 2x1gb matched pair is definately the way to go if you're doing intense gaming, or multitasking or doing any heavy 3d/multi-media design.

I have the same mobo and 4x OCZ Gold 512mb DIMMs and it works like a dream. Hope you have fun with your new rig mate

Great quick response guys cheers! I am not into overclocking or anything like that so are you saying that its not important to have named RAM if you dont OC? If so what other RAM would you suggest and can none named be purchased in pairs? Thanks

Yea I heard that the Dual SATA mobo doesnt really do 1T with pairs of memory.. You'll probably hit a wall when you want to run 4 sticks as well, apparently you'll be forced to run 333MHz regardless of CPU if u want it to run stably (4 sticks)... But dun mind me, I just got this from a fren..

I have this board and the Corsair Value Select RAM. There is definitely a problem with running at 1T, seems to be specifically with Flash websites for some bizarre reason - just get hard resets. It doesn't affect me within games or anything though. This seems to be a problem with the board rather than the RAM though - lots of people are finding the same thing. The weird thing is that as long as I don't go anywhere near a website with Flash on it, I get no problems at all.

I must have been really lucky with the RAM I got - I'm running at 230MHz, 3-4-3-8 2T no problem at all. Clocking up has more than compensated for the hit from 2T. I completed an hour or so's run of memtest86 running at the same timings with 250MHz before I got bored as well, but I decided to back down a bit as I wasn't noticing any difference in games and I'd rather keep things well within their comfort zone as I'm not an experienced overclocker in the slightest.

So the Value Select stuff is excellent, and you may get lucky and get some that clocks as nicely as mine does .

Geil Value is the best value for money RAM on the market IMO

Have placed it in at least 20 systems now and the stuff is great and damn cheap for branded!

Do i get free P&P with Scan as i am a Hex member? If so i may as buy the CPU as well been putting it off too long. I was going to go with a Venice which one do you recommend bear in mind i aint overclocking and should i get the retail or oem as i dont have a cooler fan?

The retail fan should be fine if you're not overclocking. If you set the fan speed through temp control in the bios it will be quiet and cool well as stock chips don't put out a massive amount of heat.

Corsair or Geil value ram is a good call, I have some Corsair stuff and am more than happy with it. I had 1gb of "Performance" ram ie 2-2-2-5 timings that would go up to 280mhz at 2.5-3-3-8 and I can honestly say I have noticed no difference at all in terms of slowdown in performance. The 2gb seems to make things run smoother and helps with loading times a hell of a lot more than ram timings of speed does.

I might get myself one of these and a 939 processor to upgrade my pentium 4 2.26

I was looking at the 3200 and 3500, the 3200 is better value (do model number divided by price, higher number is better value). However the 3500 is generally going for around £100 inc on ebay
