    laptop power problem

    I got a laptop to try and fix for a friend. I got a call saying it wouldn't power up after it turned itself of, so I said remove the battery, and then it started working again. A few weeks later, it wouldn't turn on at all, battery or not.

    What seems to be happening is the battery is being charged by the AC power (though it doens't hold more than 20mins use) but wont run from just AC power! I took it apart and one of the solder joints near the arm was a bit dodgy, but resoldering didn't make that much difference.

    Any ideas why it wont run from AC power?

    I also have a maxdata mbook 1000t with EXACTLY the same problem!

    Please, can anyone help us poor souls?

    EDIT;

    Whoops, sorry, not the same problem with mine at all, I read the post wrong

    My problem is that it runs fine from the mains, and will charge the battery, but will NOT run from the battery alone.
    Windows is saying that the battery is fully charged in xp, and over time the battery will decharge, so when i put it back in it seems to be charging okay..... just cannot get it to work by battery alone.

    Any suggestions?
