Basically PCI-e has replaced AGP for the graphics card socket. PCI-e and AGP are not compatable.

This has only happened within the last year or so and so your motherboard has no PCI-e slots, you do however have normal PCI slots (not sutable for graphics cards, just network cards etc) and an AGP slot.

Therefore you have to but an AGP graphics card unless you upgrade other parts of your system (which i doubt you want to do)

The x850xt AGP is a good card to get as it has a good cost to performance ratio iirc.

the powercolor you linked too is overpriced for the performance you get BUT it's about the best you'll do on AGP at a reasonable price. If you're sticking with your current motherboard and processor that's definately the one to go for.

ok thanks, im definately going to buy the powercolor, i dont think its overprice for the performance...£170 for a card that can bust out over 47FPS playing doom 3 with fsaa 4x and 16x aniso filtering on at 1024X768 <now breath> but maybe im wrong, it seems good to me!!! thanks again

It is ok, but we have alll been spoilt by the cheapness of pci-e cards.

I hope this thread isn't dead yet and some people manage to read this, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good computer magazine worth subscribing to. I used to have PC Plus (I think it was called that) but after 1 year I finally twigged I was paying more for the printing of adverts than I was for actual content, of which was not very good and very repetetive. If anyone could reccomend something it would be much apreciated!
