MSI k8n neo 4 platinum northbridge

A friend of mine owns the above motherboard and the Northbridge fan is driving him mad!

He’s had a look at available coolers and can only find the Zalman NB4J Northbridge heatsink. It would be ideal but for the fact that his gfx card over hangs where it would go , is there any other chipset cooler that he could consider that would not collide with the gfx card?

    Thanks in advance!

some people have modded the zalman in order to allow access to the pci-e slot, ie bent or even chopped off some of the pins! I'll try and hunt down some pics.

The solution to this is very simple... and I know what he means, I've heard the fan on that board in full swing! If he install this: http://66.96.84.4/support/swr_exe/mb...eCenter_MB.zip he'll be able to slow the fan down incrementally until he's happy with the volume

You sure you're overclocking correctly? what settings did you change?

I used to have the same board and I used an old Zalman fanmate to regulate the speed. I don't think theres enough space to do it any other way.

Overclocking wise it was a tremendous board. The maximum I ran it was at 333 - I've no doubt that it was capable of going higher, but it was just a nice multi at the time.

Try dropping your HT from 5x, to 4x. increasing the vcore to 1.45 and putting your memory on a divider.

When u open the app, you need to click the title 'Corecenter' and that opens the NB fan speed window

Don't overclock using programs, do it manually in the bios. Did you drop your HT to 4x ? and try increasing vcore? If don't know how to do it I'd advise reading up on some overclocking articles beforehand, its not simply a case of increasing fsb anymore.
