    PC vs Xbox 360 hypothetically...

    y running this PC:

    AMD64 2.4Ghz 512k L2 Cache
    2gb Geil value DDR400
    6800GT 256mb AGP
    X-Fi xtreme music
    Tagan 480W PSU

I have 5.1 Logitech z5500's which either PC or 360 can use. Now, I have a large purse of monies to spend - probably around £400 - but I am trying to make a sensible decision. This is purely hypothetical, but do you think it would be better to buy a premium 360, and shelling out for games which are £50 each, or spending more on a PC, if I could hypothetically get PC games for free?

The main stead behind the argument is the dominance of system exclusive games to the 360 versus the PC. I play RPGs, then FPS's. I've never played multiplayer stuff regularly, but the missus is possibly interested in playing racing games on the 360, which might be quite neat.

    Advice? Opinions?
    I've completed tetris...

xbox games wont always be £50, give it 6 months to a year and there'll be a large back catalog of games for a tenner. by then you could also chip the system, and have hypothetically free games there too. in the long run, the xbox is a much better value proposition, as its one system in 5 years, rather than a new one every 2.

Here's a better idea, hold onto all your money and splash out on a new rig when your old one starts showing it's age with the newest games.
And if you're into RPG's and FPS games, PC is the only way to go.

Spend the money on your PC or save up for a better PC.

Don't waste your money on an Xbox 360. Sure they are pretty, have some cool features (wireless controllers, turning off the console from the controller) but really it's just a limited PC in a box. It can't even cope with 'full' HDTV output (1080p) afaik, at least not with games running at full speed without slowdown. Hell i've even noticed some brief slowdown with fifa RTWC and PGR3 on a Standard tv.

Technical issues aside, you want to play mainly RPG and FPS games. Why are you even looking at a console then? Current console controllers are rubbish for both those genres; yes you can learn to use them and get reasonably good - the abilities of some 'Medal of honour' players on the PSX were scary considering there was no analogue stick then, and just try and beat me at goldeneye but it's still a long way off a keyboard and mouse combo. The only controller that looks like it might provide a decent way to control FPS on a console is the Revolutions - and that is somewhat an unknown quantity until E3 next month.

Driving games are also mentioned, and yes this is an area where consoles have a bit of dominance - but you have such games as Need for speed etc on the PC too, all you need is a decent controller for them - easily obtainable at any gaming store (steering wheel) or a Gamecube-> PC adapter can be found for a few quid giving you the ability to use a gamecube controller on the pc (look at lik-sang.com for one)

Why lock yourself to a single unupgradable system with limited use when you can upgrade or replace your PC that can do everything the 360 can plus a tonne more
