    nob performance 7800gs :(

hi, i recently upgraded to a club 3d 7800gs & it's worse than my raddy 9800 pro my system spec's are:- dfi lanparty ut nf3 250gb, A64 dtr 3400+, 1gb generic micron cas3 ram, colorsit 480w psu. tried format, various beta + official drivers, occasionally (when 1st switch on in morning) adequate cooling, no o/c. it will work properly for 1 benchmark (2694 in 3d mark '06) but run it again & it will be <400 sent it back & they say it worked fine. offered refund but i said i wanted the card!. only logical suggestion i have recieved is inadequate psu so i've upgraded to an ennermax 550w but no difference ;( HEELP!!

Did you get rid of your old ati drivers? Driver cleaner is good for that? Perhaps try uninstalling all drivers and then reloading them. If not, how about a fresh windows install?

9/10 its those gremlin ATI drivers.. Get those driver cleaners out, works most of the time..

A fresh install would be my 2nd attempt if the symptoms persists...

/slap me if this has already been tried, but short of a dodgy card or drivers, the only time I've ever seen this behaviour was when the power connector on the card wasn't fitted properly. The card wasn't receiving enuf go-go juice and so underclocked itself, resulting in gfx about as useful as a chocolate teacup.

ok This is what you need to do.
    Download throttle watcher...
Launch game, when performance in game gets poor check throttle watcher to see if the cpu heat is getting too much and throttling.if so, lower voltage or increase cooling on cpu.

Ensure your 12v rail is pumping 12v and not spiking, this can be caused by crap capacitors or even blown ones. use motherboard monitor for this.

as for drivers, on clean system, chipset -> nvidia beta drivers (always) -> sp2 inc dx9.c -> cool bits.

paste results here please. I had a similatr prob when going from x800 - 7800gtx turned out the cpu cooler fan wasnt on properly and cpu was throttling. Artic Freezer pro 7 sorted this, and allowed for some overclocking
