I don't want to see AMD improve over intel at all - that makes no sense unless you have shares in AMD

Best for the user is to have the two as close as possible, as it will drive prices down and performance up.

Anyway, lets see if there's any more delays to AM2..

In addition to the above post i should have added, i would like to see AMD get to a 50-50 level with intel, otherwise i would have to become an intel fanboi and wait for the demise of AMD and it would be nice to have a competition level where the prices come down from both parties.

Wow. Paying through the nose, for DD2 support, which is clever, when the A64 939 platform, is about as starved for bandwith, as a Bugati veryon is for BHP.

I'm hoping INtel make good with the next gen so that AMD have to come up with something as cool as their onboard memory controller to catch up

Intel's Core Due chips are on Intel's roadmap for both desktop and mobile processing, their smart cache system looks incrediable and could well put AMD on the defensive.

I wonder how DDR2 will affect the X2 performance.

Actually will AMD make single core CPU for the AM2?

nothing really. DDR2 to keep up with the jones's (and thus a higher FSB).

But theres only so much you can tell from the spec sheets, one of the big advantages of Intels S775 over its older S478 was the prescott series of processors ran much cooler (well down from nuclear meltdown to boiling water) due to witchcraft. With this in mind who knows maybe this socket change may bring some nice optimisations for the A64, my money would be on improvements to the efficiency of X2's as this slot was designed first and foremost for Dual Core processors.

Do you belive everything you read in the papers?

My S478 P4 Prescott runs 50C fully loaded during the summer, that wouldn't boil an egg.

AM2 is going to be one of the biggest let downs in recent memory if you ask me.

Everything we have seen before, shows the A64, doesn't benefit much from higher bandwith.

I hope AMD do something else, i.e use some decent clockspeeds, or Conroe is going to rape them.
