SATA Hdd, moving it to another PC.

I'm trying to move my SATA raptor drive to my new pc. It is the main hdd containing the OS(windows xp) and everything. On the new one I have no installed any drivers or anything for the new Mobo. When I start the computer it goes through the BIOS fine and seems like it recognizes the drive itself fine and then it goes like its going to start windows, i get the logo for about 1 second, then it flashes a blue screen for about 1/2 a second, and restarts. the drive still boots fine in this computer (the old one) just not in the new one. i tried using the windows repair console thing and using fixboot, that does nothing. i think the problem might be in that it doesn't have the SATA drivers for the motherboard on it. I install them when going to the repair console but i dont know it almost seems like it doesn't stick. K8N Neo4-F any suggestions?? I was hoping to get it running by tonight!

If your experiencing BSOD's it's because windows is trying to load all the device drivers from the old installation for the hardware in the old PC, and not the drivers for the newer system.

You could try removing all the drivers and then moving the drive across, but windows then would detect hardware changes and ask for reactivation.

It might be quicker to do a reinstall in all honesty.

If you're lucky you could get away with toggling APM/ACPI in the BIOS, othewise its repair installation (or reinstall) time.

Damn. Okay I was hoping to get away without doing all that since i've got 3 other hard drives with stuff installed on them but I'm pretty sure redoing that drive is going to get rid of all the registry entries and make most of that installed stuff useless. Or am I wrong about that?? Thanks for the help so far though, I've already backed everything i want from there up so it shouldn't be too bad.

if you choose repair installation from the xp disk, then you won't lose a thing... it goes throught the same process as a full instal, but keeps you settings.
    - It takes the same time as a full install too.

Just don't select format disk, and don't use recovery console !
