Which Broadband(not ASDL) router?

Think my linksys wireless g BB router has just died(stopped working and now will not show any power at all).

If I can't fix it I will need to get a new one.

Can anyone suggest the best routers?

Am looking for a combination of wired and wireless. Fastest speed possible, ease of setup but don't mind more powerful options if explained in manual properly.

If it makes any diff, I currently have BB through NTL.

Draytek not cheap but certainly does the job and does it well and reliably. Im sure other people have some alternatives too.

Personally, id get another Linksys, ive had 2 now and they have always been excellent, both of them have stopped working but they both gave me a good couple of years hard work each.

Ive just bought a Netgear one (thought id have a change), it looks easy enough to set up, but i'll let you know once ive configured it

To be honest I find all the common named brands (d-link neatgear linksys) underpowered (cpu/ram wise) and pretty piss poor. Half the time I had to disable SPI because they simply couldnt handle it. D-link was the worst I had though.

I have had bad experiences with Netgear, had 3 different models now... I know it's stupid to keep getting them when they go wrong but I need the long range they offer to get reception where I need it. But what seems to happen is that after about 6 months they start to crash, which gets worse and worse and eventually bingo it's just so stupid that you can't live with it. I haven't been able to establish the problem exactly but suspect it's due to the fact that they get fairly heavy usage from about 5 computers 24/7 and it's just pushing them too far so they 'burn out'. It's very annoying and I will not buy another netgear product again in the near future...

This is a very interesting topic, and i want to ask for some guidance.

I'm on NTL broadband, have been ever since they became NTL like 5? years ago. Well.. im still using the original modem they gave me for what was, a 256 connection back then.

Since then the connection has been steadily upgraded to whats now supposedly a 3Mb, but im still using the same old modem... will this be having detrimental effects on my connection or not? its not like ive noticed a difference everytime they've "upgraded" the line.

The reason i havent changed it is because... i bought a new modem about a year ago, fitted it in and the net wouldnt work, i rang ntl and its something to do with a unqiue ID they assign to your modem when you first connect, so when you plug a new one in it doesnt recognise it.... so, anyone got any advice? or should just stick with whats working...

BY used to get you to ring in and tell them the MAC address of the nic/router you had connected.. but they changed it to a dynamic system that automatically adds the new mac address. Thats probably why you couldnt get the net on the new modem. Give them a ring, tell them youve connected a new modem and see what they say. They should be able to do it as long as you get a decent techy (or at least one that can read).

Well the way I looked at it was.. I was going through cheap (30-50) routers at the rate of 1 every 3-6 months. So it was much more cost effective for me to get one that actually worked well and reliably. I will never look back

My first was a NetGear DG834G and it was good - I ran it for over 2 years, and now have upgraded to a NetGear DG834PN which is rock solid and has better range and signal strenght & throughput that my original Netgear - which is now runnigg a friends home network quite happily.
