Its going to be Conroe in June I guess.. Lets just see if AMD comes up with a working conroe killer prototype in 2007..

Yeah I think Conroe will be where its at for me too...though the wait for motherboards is getting some people rather annoyed ;)

Unlikely, its just the same old 939 refurbished with a DDR2 controller from the looks of it.. but the sheer thought of a retail 4Ghz A64 cannot be dismissed.. AM2 6000+ anyone? And its ludricrous score of 18sec in SuperPi 1M.. :o
I wonder if we're going to see A64-II or AX2-II as a convention to the k6-II and III by AMD before.. AMD will plop it with 4MB of cache and an interface that supports XDR :P

The way I see it, once again AMD are doing it right, and people don't seem to appreciate it.
Remember when Intel shrank down to 90nm CPU dies? Remember how the heat reduction that should come with it didn't happen? They did a lot of other changes at the same time, which pretty much negated that. AMD did a shrink first, and added more features (improved memory controller) later.
They're deploying a new socket, they're making sure the new memory controller works well, then they'll work on the rest.
The only snag is they could probably do to be quicker about it.

Yeah agreed that AMD do do things the right way and A64's are great. I hope to see additional feature sets on future chips. But if Intel get Conroe out and selling soon then AMD are going to be lagging behind
The main roblem I see is that if the AM2 is severly lagging behind the Conroe then the Conroe will be unaffordable.
If Intel price their chips too high, they will not see the benefit of finally re-taking the crown.
They really need to keep the price of the conroe competative, to give the AMD users a real reason to both switch to and recomend Intel.
Even though they do look to be noticably faster, I guess we need even faster graphics cards to take advantage of them for gaming still. They have their uses for large number-crunching but would a pure gamer buy one if it only means a few frames difference??
Were the prices that were floating around before genuine? They seemed very good, especially the 2.4ghz 4mb cache model $316 dollars i believe (probably pp1000 and we get ripped off a bit in the uk but still seems good).
