Mesh - debit, build then ship (2 weeks later)

A friend ordered a Mesh PC last Sunday. He received no email confirmation but was promptly debited the amount in full. He subsequenty contacted the company and was told that the machine is going to be delivered on 27th Nov!

Surely it's bad business practice to debit before shipping, let alone debit before actually building the machine?

This all sounds highly dodgy to me...

Exactly the same thing happened with me in 2000 before I decided to build my own PC. We specced up a PC at Mesh's showroom, applied for credit, and the guy said he would phone in a couple of days to say if the credit had gone through. Next thing we know, a letter from the credit people telling us about how to pay. Mesh didn't seem interested when we said that we hadn't actually signed/agreed to anything, and even delivered the PC, which we didn't accept the delivery of. The driver said that Mesh do this "all the time".

Very dodgy company in my opinion.

I take your point but with the two Dell machines I've ordered, my card wasn't debited until the PCs were ready to be shipped. The turn around (order to delivery) was also 5-7 days on both occasions - and that was coming from Ireland not North West London!

However, like most people on this forum I opted for self build on my most recent machine

Get them with the distance selling regulations. You are entitled to all your money back.

Distance selling regs dont apply if...

personalised goods or goods made to a consumer's specification
...most computers built by the likes of Mesh are made to order, so could be classed as made to a consumers specifications.

Unless you agree otherwise. What does the T&Cs at mesh say abou returning items?

Does this actually count as a personalised item? I'm not so sure it does......
