Seagate have "leaked" some details of their 750gig drives

    http://www.seagate.com/pdf/marketing...da_7200_10.pdf

nothing on availablity as far as i know, but as least these drives are *definitely* on the way now as opposed to just being expected.

5 of these hooked to a 5 Port XFX Revo pro mmmmmmmm ~3TB of fault tollerent goodness

just read the PDF file and noticed that they will be continuing with ATA100 as well.

Looks like IDE will take a long time to be killed off.

That's a massive increase... 50% compared to the current flagship. Not the first time we see an increase of this magnitude, but it has been a while (200GB -> 250GB -> 300/320GB -> 400GB -> 500GB -> 750GB? Unless they fit something in between).

it's not always a question of need, rather than want

in truth i *really* don't need 3TB, but ~1.5TB would be great. I have 2x 400gig, 2x 250gig and 1x 200gig disks in my "desktop" PC acting as a file server. One of the 400gig disks has my growing colection of albums in FLAC, the other has Xvid rips of my DVD films. The first 250gig has all my albums in OGG, MP3 and AAC. The second has Xvid rips of TV seasons ans music dvds etc. the final 200gig just had random media and downloads etc.

Would be good to get it all on one volume with some decent room to spare

In a few years it would be tempting to re-rip all my DVDs to ISO images for archival on a 4+TB array...

EDIT: oh yeah, and there is the distinct possability of some 14gig AVI files from my DV camcorder in the near future. Would also like the new HD camcorder from Sony at some point, that would mean 14gig MPEG-2 files on there as well

I dont do video, but image editing and illustration that i do in one week eat up 20Gb already. I bit worried bout these hard-dirve, i mean what if it fails :| 750Gb of data loss, i'll probably kill myself if that ever happen.

yeah, the only easy way to back that lot up is to get a duplicate drive or set of drives. Removable media just can't keep up
