    Memory Problem

    Hi!

Right, basically I've been offered 2x1GB sticks of RAM for my rig. I'd actually quite like to run the max possible so I wan't to run it with my current 2x512mb, effectively giving me 3GB. I'm assuming that means ditching dual channel mode and maybe lossening the timings and 1T/2T setting. I'd just like to check that I can mix memory like this? (My previous computer was a Compaq which had a fit if the memory sticks weren't identical). Also would the extra gig over 2gb be worth the drop in timings/dual channel Any help would be great, thanks!

I did a similar upgrade, lost a bit of DRAM timing, DDR400 to DDR333 iirc, still ran dual chan, but I may have just gotten lucky. (2x1gb, 2x256mb)

For now I've ripped out the additional ram, 2gb is plenty for me (I know I'm going to regret saying that some day)

Thanks for that, well when I get it I'll bench it in several settings and then run some real world tests to see whats best.
