Dual Core or better card

Well guys....tomorrow Scan get my dough ;)

Question is: DO I do the twin core Opteron and get a cheaper vid card (7600 GT likely) or single core and 7900 GT (ish)

Games rig mainly, but the question has to be asked.....when you Alt Tab out of a game, to switch on voice comms or whatever, and you have an entire spare CPU, is it a nice feeling ;)

If it was me, I'd definitely stick with the single core and get the better graphics card. For current gaming I don't see any real benefit of dual core. In the future when multi-threaded games do exist the current crop of CPUs will be too old anyway.

IMO it's a nicer feeling having maximum eye-candy and high res with the 7900GT than being able to save seconds off your alt-tab times ;)

Single core / Better g.card.
Voice comes will take a small fraction of any CPU time, certainly nothing to worry about.
A basic rule to go by at the moment : If you need to ask if you need dual core, then you dont ;)

Ditto - although I'd go ATi as I like my HDR and AA on the same sandwich. :mrgreen:

good theory...its just that some bloke called Agent then comes along and says "Zak.....if you had dual core like I do, you'd be able to do what you just asked" about three weeks later ;)

If its for games the 7900GT rocks. I'm running a single core opteron with it, and have no plans to switch in the next 6 months.

I gots an Asus 7800GTX TOP Edition I might be looking to sell, comes factory-fitted with an Arctic Silencer and factory overclocked :) Would probably be looking to get the same amount as you'd pay for a mid-high end 7900GT, in case your interested.

I also have it paired with an Opteron 146 CABNE clocking beast, but that I am not selling. Results are awesome though, can't believe I paid so little for a mad performing CPU :D

How much ram you got and what's your current rig...

for games, Dual Core isn`t very important.
instead, a powerful single one ,7900GT & large memory is necessary
