    Card Reader and system boot

I got a Card reader a few days ago... 3.5" floppy slot mount, reads MS, CF, SM, SD, MMC one of those 6-in-1 card reader thingies....

It runs from a USB cable in the back (1.1 & 2.0 compliant) and has an adapter to convert the USB to a pin-out.

The problem is my system won't boot with it plugged in unless there is a card in one of the slots. It stalls at the "Initialise Floppy" stage, but if you then pull the USB lead out it continues to boot.

Anyone seen this before, know a solution etc.>?

Have you tried disabling the floppy drive seek in the bios?

Yeah, even tried disabling the floppy drive altogether... with floppy seek enabled it stops just after doing the seek on the floppy drive ?!?!

Have you checked the boot order?, you aren't trying to boot from a usb media at all are you?.

What version of the 6-1 reader is it, it would help to know this to see if there is any commonly known problems on it.

    Thanks

Yeah I changed the boot order to
    • 1: HDD
      2: Disabled
      3: Disabled
Attempt to Boot From Other Devices: No

It is very strange, and has really confused me. It's like it's trying to boot from it, as if there's a card in a slot it boots fine, but I can't even leave a card in else the door on the PC won't shut

    For Background:
The Device is a Scan 6-in-1 reader, which is actually a G-Atlantic device: http://www.g-alantic.com.tw/p-card.htm
The PC is a P4 2.4 running on an MSI 845E Max2 board, with 1024 MB of 2100 RAM.

Confused and Confuddled, might give Scans Tech Support dept. a ring
