    Red face Printer Running costs

I have a Samsung 1750 mono laser that needs a new toner. An original 3000 page toner costs just under £58 (inc VAT) which seems to be a rip off!!!!

This made me think - does anyone know approx how many pages they get out of their Inkjet printer. I have a Deskjet 990 which uses a hp no 45 and seems to last for ages.

I always used to tell people that mono lasers were cheaper to run than Inkjets but I'm beginning to think I'm very wrong...

    What are your thoughts????

That works out at a tad under 2p per page - and I bet you actually get more than 3000 pages per cartridge... I think you will be lucky to better that with an inkjet, plus a laser printer does generally produce a better print quality.

I have an old (14 years) Apple LaswerWiter 16/600 Pro (HP Laserjet 4M engine) and it is a cracking printer and I will keep it for ever unless it goes kaput!
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

I did look at ebay and was surprised how much cheaper compatibles are. I'm not a great fan of compatibles - had a bad experience with each printer I have tried. I know of many people however who are v happy with them. I may be tempted to try it with the Samsung though...

    Thanks for your comments.

Does anyone know how much it costs to print b&w on an Inkjet????

I've read the latest PC Pro but it really only gives prices for photo printing, which isn't what I use a printer for.

I've got an ML-1510/1710 mono laser and have had similar "issues" - I can't be arsed with refilling the old carts, and I'm not willing to go down the compatible route. I've been quite lucky though - I found some original Samsung ML-1710D3 toner carts for £44 inc VAT. For some reason ebuyer (my ususal source) has boosted the price to £80 recently... It's a tricky one - at the end of the day, I got the printer for £49, and knew the toner was always going to be about £50 a time... Perhaps when I've got through my next cart I'll give refilling a go...

Honestly - refilling the cartridge is so easy!

You just put some paper down (or do it over the sink), unscrew the 4-5 screws holding it together, remove the end cap, screw the cartridge together, pour the toner in and replace the end cap.

£30 saved, Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt, etc.

Well, I'll definitely give it a go next time... Thanks.
