    Quiet 478 cooler help

    Hey,

I've decided that i'd like to give silencing my PC a go, i've installed an artic cooler on my graphics card and i've changed the case fans, but i have no idea about the CPU heatsink/cooler, the stock that came with it is pretty noisey so i'd like to change it to something a bit quieter.

I have a socket 478 CPU @2.8ghz It's not overclocked and at this time as i know nothing of overclocking and i have no intentions to overclock.

    What would you recommend? Thanks

It really depends on how much room you have in your case & between the cpu socket & the caps Zalmans are pretty good as are tthe arctic cooling freezers Also bear in mind that good case temps will allow the cpu cooler to run slower (quieter) 120mm case fan are a good way of getting good airflow with minimal noise, also some people cut the mesh away at the back of the case where the fan is to improve airflow & reduce wind noise. I have also fitted customer pcs in the attic with the monitor ect in a bedroom & ianother in broom cupboard connected to the living room 42" lcd tv & audio system. Lots of options mate its just which one is right for you ?

Was wondering the same question...was going to go for the zalman cnps9500 but the scythe ninja looks tempting, anyone vouch for one of these?

Yeah, they're both good coolers. I'd definitely go for the Scythe Ninja Plus, as it has superior cooling and can be had for $45 on Newegg. As opposed to the usual $60+ you see the 9500 go for.

Had a Zalman flower on my 478, great temps and one of the quietest coolers around - only prob was a bit difficult to clean what with all the fins.

I have a CoolerMaster XDream III on my 3.6ghz processor, for the price it is excellent and keeps my processor really cool and its quiet, its perfect if you have a window in your case as it has LED's but if you want to just keep it cool then go for a zalman I'd say!
