Plantronics Gamecom pro or DSP-500?

Hopefully either way I go, it'll be a good decision since they're both plantronics. Alright, I can get the Gamecom pro for $45 whereas I can get the DSP-500 for $48, both prices are with shipping included. I was also considering the Icemat Siberias. They're just really damn expensive. Though, before you comment on the Siberias or any other gaming headsets you think are good, please give your input on the two Plantronics.

I have the DSP-500's, they are very good. Mic quality is second to none, and in games they perform very very well indeed. However i think the music reproduction is quite shoddy but im a bit spoiled if you see what speakers and soundcard i use. The USB connection is very nice though, handy and it bypasses the bugs my soundcard has with microphones.

I'd certainly recommend them if your not going to listen to music on, or arent particularly fussy.

i have the gamecom, excellent mic and can provide hefty amounts of bass... but dont be expecting any fashion awards with it tho

Fantastic, So glad I stumbled over this thread : I am just about to receive a set of 5500's and I have the same USB headset as you have, how do you find and how easy is it to switch between the two?????

Its delightfully easy. Note these steps:

Plug in USB headset - Soundcard disables, headset works
Unplug USB headset - Soundcard enables, Z5500's work.

Only problem is if you do it mid mp3 winamp throws up and error, but simply start the track again and its perfect on your desired device Unusual that it works so well, normally there would be some sort of conflict and the world would end, but nope works 100%

Enjoy your z5500's btw, they are lovely. Just give them a week or 2 to loosen up, they sound fantastic when you first get them but after the 2 weeks oh boy do they get better.

But one more thing DW that sounds fantastic, and you think that it wouldn't matter if you were using onboard AC97 or a sound card?

Replied to your PM. But to summarise, definately get a decent card to power these things. AC97 is fine for most things and would be a perfectly fine stopgap but once you get a decent card you wont look back.
