Swap the 3700+ for a 3800X2 from Lowest on web. (£170 deliverd)

    Swap the PSU for http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=271185

Swap the mboard for (the chipset fan is loud on the asus)- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=292146

I would be tempted to go for 2 hard disks - especially if your friend hasn't got much experience in PCs - one for the OS and the second one for data etc. 80GB is more than enough for a windows install and programs - data could then be handled by another (perhaps 200gb, though 300gb is better value for money) hard disk.

The Hiper PSU's are pretty good, and single core makes sense considering that very few programs actually fully use the capabilities of dual cores

Just a final thought - what Case are you considering, as you really want one with good airflow to increase the component life (my old system had no cooling on the Hard Disks, got pretty toasty & died ), so look for ones with 120mm fans, preferably front & back.

    Hope this helps a bit

    Dave
