    Asutek Dual Sata2 Overclock Advice

I have the above mentioned Mobo and a Venice 3200 in a CM stacker and watweercooled with a Waterchill block and a 1 x 120 rad

I fancy overclocking it but every time I tamper the machne won't boot and I have to try for a while, then it resets to factory defaults and I spend a couple of hours ressetting the bios to recognise sata 2 drive, boot sequence etc

I even tried a windows based overclock recommended in custom PC and when It scanned for max FSB it locked my computer!

    Anyone any hints plz???????

Do you mean the asrock dual sata mate? What are you changing in the bios to cause it to not boot? The fsb is not the only thing you need to change now.

I may be wrong but I don't think that there is a freq. lock on the SATA300 controller on that board.
have you tried it with the HDD on the SATA150 port?

hi syd - have the same board and have a similiar type of issue. It seems that the FSB doesn't want to go that high (i can get 230 max) although others report much higher results. note that there certain versions of the bios don't go above +/- 270 mark and it may be that the program you were running pushed out beyond this causing the crash.
however, to be more helpful, would need to know what settings and changes you are making to your bios...
check out www.ocworkbench.com forums for some good faq's and advice.

(my bios is 1.6 [also 1.2], fsb/htt is 220, CPU is 3500+ e6 venice, htt multiplier is x4, vcore at 1.4, mem is running at 220. have set down mem speed and cpu multiplier, but always hit a wall at 230HTT - just refuses to post)

Thats probably part of the problem mate, 2700 is only good for 333 IE 166mhz if I'm correct. You need to run your memory on a divider and then you might have some more luck with your overclocking

Have a look in there for memory divider settings mate, it should tell you all you need to know with regards to changing your memory speeds

Err that is pretty comprehensive, but perhaps a bit overwhelming, I s there anybody out there who can point me to a link with a more gentle introduction to o'clocking the asrock board??

    Hi again mate,

This is really basic as I cannot remember my way around the asrock bios, it should give you some food for thought though.

If you read through that it has the basics for the board, the HTT multi is actually called something else in that bios though, and its options are 1000,800,600,400,200 instead of 5x,4x,3x,2x etc

To keep things sweet when you up the fsb on your board you need to be keeping the link speed lower than 1000 or 2000 ddr.

Say you set your cpu to 250fsb (im pretty sure most cpu's will manage this) you would need the following settings

the 1000,800 option etc would need to be set to 800 as you are using a 4x 250 = 1000 or 2000 ddr.

Next is your memory clock - If you are running pc3200 memory you ideally want to be keeping your memory clock around 200mhz and so you need to run a divider to keep that sweet.

In this case you want to run the memory at 333 in the bios which will equate to a real memory speed of just over 200 mhz which even the cheapest of memory should be able to handle.

Its possible your cpu might want a little more voltage to run at 250fsb but I doubt it. Your best bet is to do the above settings but instead of a jump straight to 250 from 200, go up in tens until you hit 250.
