    nForce 4 and m-Audio Revolution 7.1

    Here we go again

I'm having to use onboard sound now, cos once Ihad a perfect install on XP on my Asus A8N-E with two seagates 7200.9 80 gig's in RAID, the next thing i wanted was my sound

Soon as my precious Revolution 7.1 went in, XP took 2minutes longer to boot. This feels like an IRQ issue, in a big way.

I have 3 PCI slots, and tried two, but once I'd put my card in, even taking it back out made XP boot slowly with a black screen for over 1 minute before XP desktopmaterialised

I rolled back XP using my best mate "System Restore" (yes I made a restore point after the XP downloads, but with no drivers )

    Problem gone, tried again...problem back

Even once the card is out, and drivers uninstalled, the boot process is still knackered.

SO roll back and use onboard which frankly is average, but the back ground noise is unreal (in comparison to my beautiful Revo 7.1)

Now....the good news was that with my SCSI card in,and no SATA and no RAID, it worked fine!
    In one of those slots!

So....here we have yet nother issue with nForce 4

    Gawd...dontcha love PC's

Youre really not having fun with this transistion are you?

Mine takes maybe about an extra 30 seconds with the creative drivers, can you not check the irqs? Set device manager view to resources by type and it lists everything by irq/dma #

mate...thank you for feeling some of my pain ...no...it's not been easy, but I never give up. Ever.

So I will be trying to sort it tomorrow. I want my sound card on my machine. End of.

But...and it's a big but, I wouldn't be able to live with a 30 second boot extension time. I hate things not being perfect.

I have installed XP over 30 times this last week, because once I have fiddled with stuff, and worked out a solution, I reinstall totally for a perfect fresh install, making notes to remind myself of it all.

Might be a bit nutty, but it's what I like to do. I have'nt slept for properly a week cos this
    PC is my 'baby'

    zak,

i had a similar issue with a m-audio card, and this happened when i had 1 x graphics card installed and both pci-e slots set to 8x. if i changed the jumpers (dfi) and made it into 16x and 2x and fitted the graphics card into the 16x pci-e slot, the problem went away. this also fixed a lot of crackling and a 30-60 second delay in booting.

    good luck
