    Gainward Bliss 7800GS AGP

Umm OK so I have a crappy socket 478 mobo with no PCI-e slot sob sob sob
err I was thinking about buying this card, I was thikning of just buying a new 400W PSu and the card and then that should last me utill DX10 and all that lot! Is this a good idea? They are about £210 from microdirect. If I had a S775 then sure it would be better to get a SATA 2 mobo bla bla bla....but I dont and I dont want to build a new rig just yet!! Any suggestions would be much aprecciated!

Yeah I'd agree with that - they are seriously good cards. I was blown away when I saw one in action in what I thought was an old computer..

whoo! Erm would a 400W PSU be sufficient? My PSU atm is 300W, certainly not capable!
Oh and the gainward model seems to be a bit rare - only micro direct sell it and they are out of stock :S are the XFX and Leadtech models practicaly the same? They all have Mem 1200 MHz and a 375 MHz GPU (non oc'd). Hmmm...

err on what sorry ? I think a 20Pin PSU at around £40 would be good and the card, well £200 idealy but they stretch to about £240 but I dont really want to spend that! I need to get another 512mb of RAM as well
oh one last thing would it be better to just get the PowerColor X850XT I was trying to compare benchmarks as best as I could find and in most cases the perfomance between the two cards is almost parallel! But I was thinking that in future games for PC like Advanced Warfighter, the new shader models/pixel this and shadow that stuff is loadssss better in the nVidia and so it would be best to get that! lol i have confused myself!

Just a word to the wise - dont skimp on the psu. Go for a decent brand, it is worth paying the premium for stability. 7800gs is very nice, though doesnt it use a pci-e bridge chip?

Umm the GS is an AGP card err you mean go for a more powerful PSU or a more expensive PSU. I would have thought that 400W would be sufficient? Obviously im not running SLi or anything like that :S

although they are out of stock u will find them around alot of places, they are so tidy its a joke, i use one myself and its amazing, pluse when u upgrade there is no need ot chnage it. and everything is on atatchments, so if u need or dont need somehtign u can put it on or take it off

wow never had a modular PSU before it looks a good buy. Oh and can anyone answer my question about whether there it is much better to go for the 7800 as opposed to the powercolor x850xt
thanks for this help by the way

Yeah, the other models aren't anywhere near as good as the gainward bliss. If micro can't get more, then try overclockers - two friends of mine got their's there (at a huge premium mind you).

The gainward one is actually a bridged 7800GT, with more, fast, ram to boot.

Don't go for a X850 type card - they can't do SM3.0 and you really miss out in games like Oblivion.

idd shader model three is importnat on alot of visually stunning games, and also the 7800 is a new generation card and the 850 is old now although a top card has nothing on the 7800 series, the psu is good i have one all though if your looking fopr the daddy of psu i would look at seasonic

Yea a PCI-e bridge chip converts a graphics card natively designed for pci-e to agp

With the PSU I was simply suggesting going for one that suits your requirements, but from a decent manufacturer - tagan, seasonic etc, or if you really want quality OCZ. 400w should be about right, though I went for a 500w seasonic for the nice quiet 120mm fan
