My Tagan thought it was the 5th of November on Thursday

    Hi,

Thursday night, sat watching TV and I heard a crackling noise coming from the computer. Ran over, switched off sockets just after the machine rebooted. Tried to boot up, nothing.

Unplugged all cables, pulled the computer out of the corner, and noticed a brown tint above the PSU. With the room being lit I missed the firework display. When I opened up the case, I could smell burning.

    Nice.

Unfortunately I have lost the receipt for the PSU and I think I bought it from OCUK, they don't have order history from what I can see so it looks like there wouldnt be much point in attempting to RMA it. I don't know if Tagan would take it back, I don't know if they have been making the 2Force for 3 years, if not, then it can't possibly be out of its 36 month warrenty/garrentee period.

It's the 2force 520w model, and if I can't get an RMA/free replacement, I'm consdiering the exact same model as a replacement but the Modular one.

It is currently limping along on a 380w PSU which is undervolting so a new PSU is needed soon....so opinions on a new power supply then, I've got about £70-80 to spend, full system spec below.

    3700+ @ 2.7GHz
    1GB Corsair Value Select
    A8N SLI Deluxe
    6800GT
    1x200GB drive
    3 x 300GB drives
    Nec 3520A + Asus CD-R
3 x blue LED Coolermaster fans
Usually 4 or more USB devices plugged in at once

    Thanks.

IIRC, Nanopoint handle all of Tagan's RMAs in the UK.
You might want to try contact them?

And I don't think it can be anywhere near 3 years old yet. Perhaps 2, but I'm pretty sure Tagan haven't been manufacturing the 2Forces for 3 years...so you should have a leg to stand on...fingers crossed

Right, the power supply has been sent to Nanopoint, thanks again Fatal for the link.

The thing that is on my mind is I didn't see sparks, and the PC tried to boot afterwards but wouldnt (fans were spinning etc) which leads me to beleive the power supply is infact still working? When I changed PSU's, it still wouldnt boot til I reset the cmos. I'm just hoping they do find the problem.

Is it possible for a power supply to blow/smoke and still work afterwards? And how easy is a problem like this to spot if they dismantled the power supply?

    Thanks again.

I've seen a few dead PSU's on various systems before (including one of my own) and everytime they do the same things, fans will spin, lights may come on, but nothing will power.
