Hi,
My HDD (Western Digital Raptor 74Gb) seems to have problems reading. Running the Westen Digital Diag's on the drive indicate that SMART has failed.
Is this usually a good enough reason to RMA the drive, its less than 3 months old.
Thanks
Andrew

I would recommend you to run HDTune and do a surface scan and see how stuff goes.
I made one of my WD2000JB (old IDE drive) SMART fail due to a loosen power cable. It showed as failed but no bad sector (reallocated sector is also still full). And still going strong.
If you see any bad sector thats good enough reason to RMA it.

SMART failure should certainly be seen as a warning to imminent failure. Go with what the previous poster suggested to ensure you fix whatever is wrong ASAP, else an RMA looks to be on the cards![]()
