Exclamation Think I've got a dodgy mobo........

    Guys,

Just built my new system, all brand new parts etc.

    Intel Pentium 4 950 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.4GHz

    Asus P5WD2 Premium Intel 955X (LGA775) PCI-Express Motherboard

    Patriot Low Latency 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

my current GFX card is the Sapphire ATi Radeon X1900XT-X 512MB which i am obviously keeping.

    PSU - Enermax Liberty 620W

Now then, i rig it all up and when i power on everything spins up, but i get no monitor output, I have tried and tested everything I can, and have narrowed it down to the CPU or Mobo (as its unlikely to be RAM)

Anyone got any advice or ideas?

    Thanks,

    PC-Dood

try changing the DVI cable to the other port at the back.

if you're on the secondary port, sometimes u dont get any output from it.

is there any beeping noises when u switch it on? or just nothing on the display at all.

i dont think that a cpu fault would cause no output to the monitor at all, as it should boot to the BIOS if nothing else.

tried both DVI's, theres no POST beep either, or any beeps at all,

also, as you may know, the Radeon X1900XTX when u power up the fan spins and makes loads of noise, and then slows down. Well, it just keeps spinning really fast and doesnt slow down

I think the mobo controller chips or sommats are kaput!

I think some asus boards have a speech reporter that is meant to work even when no cpu is in or something like that if you have speakers hooked up, might be worth checking the manual on that one.

I have to admit I had the exact same problem, including the fan speed not dropping on my x800xt and it turned out to be a duff asus a8n-sli premium so the prospect is potentially grim.

I know its a n00bish question but have you reset the cmos and followed the manual on how to do it (I've found different board makers have slightly different methods)?

Try take the CPU out and clean the processor. I once had some dust going into the socket which caused bad contact between the CPU and the LGA socket.

Thanks for your help people, I have tried everything you have suggested before, as the book says....

I'll get another mobo and try that, then RMA this one or whatever, as I cant see the CPU doing this, and the RAM would allow me into the BIOS surely

Ok i had a gigabyte mobo and the same asus as you i'm using the asus now its fine but this happened to me!

All the lights on the pc case (power, hdd etc..) were lit up the dvd drives had power but wouldn't open and my hdds didn't spin up + my ram wasn't getting power. My monitor had no input just went to standby.

After removing the mobo i found my problem... The firewire controller fried and also fried the south bridge. Opened the asus going great.

If you have the same as I did 90% sure it's the mobo.

    did you send it back?

if you have a chance (and some spares) definitely try changing the ram, theres every chance it just doesnt like it
