    Silent Cooling

I'm looking for the quietest case fans, cpu cooler and power supply I can find. I need 2 80mm fans, a socket 939 cooler that can cope with overclocking an opteron 146, and a silent power supply (preferably modular). I've got £80 to spend on it all.

Also, would it be worth buying the Antec SLK3000B for a case? I already have a decent case, but was wondering if the Antec really makes a difference with noise.

    Cheers

You're going to have heat problems if you go too quiet. I'd go for a new case with 120mm fans amd get 2*120mm nexus/yate loon fans.

The sythe ninja is a good quiet performance cooler. If you put a fan on the cooler you can push the air through the fins and duct it to another rear case fan, should work well.

Power supply, get a seasonic S12 if you want quality/cheaper than fanless and still quiet. Not sure what the fanless ones are like now, maybe the antec phantom is still king?

I agree with the Seaonic S12 recommendation. It is not modular, but it is the quiestest PSU with a fan. However, your budget you force you to stay with the 430W model, which is fine as long as you aren't going SLi/Crossfire.

Yate Loon would probably be better than Nexus for your budget.

The Scythe Mine looks like a good alternative to the Scythe Ninja for a few quid less.

What case do you currently have? I used to have the OEM version of the Antec.

As stated by BenW you will restrict yourself to the 430 Seasonic due to the budget but this is one of the best IMO.

The Ninja does get good reviews and is a decent cooler.

I'm running the SLK3000B with an Opteron 146 with a Scythe Ninja Plus (fan set to run @ 30% and ramp up to 100% when the temp hits 40C).

Up front in the case is the 120mm that comes with the case set to the lowest setting, and up back is a Sharkoon 120mm @ 5V (the 2000 rpm version). PSU is the Seasonic S12 430W.

It is incredibly quiet - loudest thing is a slight hum from the Samsumg SP2004 hard drive.

I've heard great things about the Zalman PSUs, a mate's just built a dozen or so HTPC rigs and they all use them, they're damn quiet.

Same here, loudest thing in my system is the Samsung Spinpoint, thought they're supposed to be quiet?
