From what I've heard recently gains on AMD hw can be as high as 5% (same jump your get from Dual Channel BTW) so can be worth experimenting. However it can be a long and tedious process and can easily quietly corrupt your files (and OS) so take care. Biggest problem is testing, you can't test properly in Windows (too much already allocated) but programs handle RAM differently outside of Windows so can pass then corrupt within Windows. If you do set faster timings test thoroughly, backup and keep a watchful eye. Best to stay close to the manu's rec limits.

i already have my FSB @ 200 and multiplier at 11 so i might just leave it alone as far as memory goes....

on another note, how can i tell if my Barton chip is locked or unlocked... i saw your post in another forum today.

Go into your BIOS and simply change the multipiler from there to any value you want.

Otherwise, you can read this thread first before you pop off your heatsink and check out your CPU stepping.

Yup all you need to do is try using another multiplier (pref lower so you know your CPU isn't limiting things) and see if it sticks, may need to set it twice before it sticks on some occasions. Also it is feasible that some multipliers are locked while others aren't. Finally most mobos don't understand the 5th FID bit and as such are limited to a max 12.5x multiplier and can have probs if the stock multiplier is higher.
