Intel or AMD

I am looking to build a new PC in the near future and was wondering which way to go on the build. I am either thinking of an AM2 5000+ or a Core Duo 2 processor.

Does anyone have any preferences either way? I am mindful to go with AMD at the moment but what benefits would Core2 have?

AMD until conroe and then we will see what happens

When is Conroe due to land? the last thing I want to do is commit to a platform the realise the other one is better value, call it the green grass syndrome but I was stung before now and got a raw deal

I'd wait and see if AM2 is indeed a steppingstone like 754 was, but also for when Conroe comes out. Your current rig has some life left in it, so I personally would wait, and get the winner of the two

with AM2 or Conroe you will need to buy DDR2 RAM.
With 939 at least you can use your existing RAM

I bought an S939 setup 2 weeks ago but the SLI meant I couldnt add all the other cards I needed, and now that AM2 will be out tomorrow I am glad I sent the stuff back
