Got my hard drive back from seagate but oh dear... recommendations please...

Hye guys jsut got my hard drive back from seagate, which recently failed. They have so say refurbished it and sent it back in a lovely little padded box. However, the drive after brief tests is showing only a 75% fitness level. What do you think of this, and would you recommend i contact seagate and tell them it is unacceptable and that i want a drive that is 100% functioning!!!

Unacceptable if u ask me.. I paid genuine money for a drive and its faulty.. I would be expected to be either refunded or replaced with one with at least equal quality.. never inferior

Hmmm, well it is better than the old HD, however...
I would see what Seagate have to say on this, and whether you can get a new drive.

Looking at your SMART stats...and I don't claim to be an expert by any means in these types of matters, I couldn't say with any certainty whether this is anything you need to worry about.

You don't seem to have any bad sectors...a good thing, and I'm not sure of the significance of the Errors which Speedfan is throwing up.
It may be that Seagate have indeed refurbished the drive, but that the SMART data has not been cleared...not entirely sure how these work :), but like I say, I would see what Seagate have to say on the matter.

I was running Speedfan before I wiped the HD and one of the scores was low. Can't remember if it was the fitness so I contacted Seagate. They told me to test with the diagnostics as they didn't accept the results from the fitness test.

Ah , thats a very good point. I didnt believe that they would accept results from a third party either :mad: Thing is though, i bet this 3rd party test kicks the ass of their seagate offical test!

Seagate have never let me down with returns. I'm sure if Seatools shows up SMART warnings they'll take it back.

Well theres nothing wrong with asking, just call them and see what they say

I'd run it through Seagate's Diagnostic Software (SeaTools), do a full test and if everything test fine I wouldn't worry about it.

You could also run it through MHDD.

If I vaguely remember about SMART, it could be a case of the drive being repaired but the SMART values were not reset? I could be completely wrong.

If it passes all the tests and your still worried about the data you could use it as seperate drive in your system for the pagefile and/or temp files.

How long has the replacement got left on its warranty? Should be the remainder of the warranty on the original drive.
