    New PSU Advice...

    Hey all,

Ive currently got a Q-Tec 650W PSU - And, one of the fans is on the way out, + It would seem it interferes with my screen (Electric field created somehow...) - So, i dont want to take the cheap option!

Around £50-£70 (maybe a bit over). Basically enough to power current system and allow for furture upgrades. Needs to be stable and, obviously not interefear with my screen!
Looking at the some of the Hiper's, thermaltakes (Thermaltake PurePower TWV 500W ATX2.0 Modular PSU (W0057)), i would go with tagen, but Overclockers are out of the one i was going to get...and the interferance with my screen is un-barable (+ ive got no where to move the PC tower out of the way to!)

    Thanks for any recommendations

    EDIT: oops, forgot system specs!

    AMD 64 4000+
    Asus A8N5X

    2GB PC3200 dual channel RAM

    Thinking of this:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...source=froogle

    Yes/no?

    Or perhaps a hyper type-R/Thermaltake PurePower TWV 500W ATX2.0 Modular PSU (W0057)?

i swear hiper should give me some sort of bonus for constantly bigging up their PSU's, but i can highly recomend the 580 type R m8, very very very good!!!!

Would say Hiper on the cheaper (still good) side, Seasonic if you got the money
    Tagan is decent but expensive.

I would stay away from Thermaltake and OCZ power supplies though (Not as much positive comment from reviews as Hiper/Seasonic/Tagan)

Somewhere around 450W will power your system happily.

If you are sticking with the equipment listed in the original post (i.e. not adding a second GFX card), then the Seasonic S12 430W would be ideal. And also quieter than the Tagan & Hiper. Scan have it for about £40.

Look over at the SPCR recommended list - Seasonic are #1, 2 & 3 in the 400W+ category.

Antec Neo 550. Rated for both Crossfire and SLI and within budget from Overclock.

    Cheers,

Another vote for Seasonic here, it is supremely quiet, rock solid & one of the most effiecient ones out there.

As for what you currently using, your Q-tec, quite frankly I'm surprised your pc is still in exsistence. They have a terrible habit of going up in flames, get it out of there pronto, I'm not joking.

They dont call them flaming Q-tecs for nothing. Also do you want modular or are you happy with the old design?

Seasonic and Tagan would be my first choice (own a tagan and buying a seasonic today lol) And probabl seasonic over the two (but more expensive). However i have heard many good comments about Hiper if you want to spend a bit less and or not planning much overclocking.

Also why overclockers, go scan ftw!

Hiper are fine for overclocking. Tbh there isn't a massive difference between the bigger manufacturers unless you are really pushing things ie dual core at 3ghz, a few raptors, possibly some tecs, 7900gtx sli etc in which case the bigger seasonic/tagan/fsp.

For you needs the hiper will be more than good enough.

    in order seaconic>tagan>fps

although if you have a DFI crossfire board cfx3200, then makes sure your PSU is a revision 2.

Ok, well out of the Seasonic S12 500W, and the Hiper type-R 580W - which one would be best suited to my current system and future upgrades i have planned (X2, Sli etc)?

Note: Noise is not a issue!

    Cheers
