External HDD Enclosures

Anyone got one of those? Seems like a really nice enclosure for portable storage. £30 inc vat, and with a SATA drive at about the same for 80gig, am I missing summit better out there?

In this case it's looks I'm after

I wouldn't say you are missing anything much better - I went for the SATA to SATA/USB2 one though, as it gives you the option to use an eSata port (or the included bracket if your mobo doesnt have one) and is a bit quicker. Portable it is, as long as you dont mind carrying the power adapter too, though that isn't honestly that impractical to transport.

to be fair it's for storage at home, save to me building a server for Sair's mammoth photos and film back-catalogue.

I have the same HDD holder and I'm using a 250GB sata (obviously) drive in there.

I did have random disconnections a few weeks ago (only 3 weeks old) but now it's doing fine.

Although it kinda seems a waste to have a kick ass sata drive limited to USB speeds. hey ho.

Thats why this is probably a better option (I've got the silver version) and is even £2 cheaper

mate im running 2 of these - there sweet, ive got my music and films stored on there so just turn it on as and when i need them

because it has SATA output on the back aswell, which can be used to connect it to an internal SATA port, via the supplied bracket & long lead = much quicker transfer rates, while also having the flexibility of USB to attach it to PCs without eSATA ports

I was going to use Sata myself, but hate the sata pci slot adapter. Picky and silly I know

ah ok, according to the title it doesnt, according to the tech specs it does. ah well....

I have the IDE icy box, been running for about a year, I use it with a samsung hd for back up/programs, works flawlessly, picked it up for £20

I have one and although good would recommend you only use it via Sata as is pretty slow when USB connected.
