Question I want some new memory please help

Hi all i am looking to get some new memory. the mother board i have is the abit kn8altra. The memory i have seen is this one

    2GB (2X1GB) Corsair TwinX DDR, PC3200 (400), 184 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 3-3-3-8 £132.78 from scan

    they also have this one

    2GB (2X1GB) Corsair TwinX DDR, PC4000 (500), 184 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 3-4-4-8 £152.62 from scan as well.

which would be the best bet or is there another one which would be good to use.

any input would be good as it costs quite a bit and i dnt want to buy something that is not any good.

    Thanks all in advance

    Herb

If you intend to overclock (I note that you are on your Opti) imo the PC4000 is probably slightly better.

Unless you use a divider (vitually no performance loss) then the tighter timings would be better

For overclocking the higher frequency are better but if you are happy to use a divider then go for the cheaper set. I belive that scan has some bog standard pc3200 stick for just under 50 with a heatspredaer thrown in on today only (over the bankholiday weekend).

By far the best would be to go for 2gb of corsair value. It actually uses UCCC which many other more expensive 2gb sticks also use. Put it on a divider and I guarantee you will no notice any difference between it and the more expensive stuff.

as said, if you intend to overclock, i would highly recomend these http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=291360 and they come with heat spreaders.

a friend of mine has them running happily at 275mhz ! at 1:1 ratio with original timmings and at £150 this is a good bargin.

G.skill HZ is also very good overclocking memory which fits the £150 price mark. Also your find them easy to sell when your done with them.

hmm those a-data have pretty bad timings for an "extreme" ram kit

the OCZ stuff should be BH-5 which is pretty good (will be the new batches which arent as good but still)
