Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB
which raptor the 150gb?
do you want sata 2? i would go for the new 150 raptor for speed in games etc,
however a spinpoint sata 2 250gb will be quick (3gbs) and lots of room for everything oh and a whole lot cheaper
you sure its the hard drive? i thought you tried a spare one and that did the same thing?
I'm not sure what the speed comparison would be like, but you could try two Spinpoints in RAID0. 0.5TB of P120 goodness for ~£100?
Just a thought
The 150 is SATA I still isn't it?Originally Posted by Pie_uk
Data writes are still far slower than External Interface Transfer rates, so SATA II doesn't do terribly much for writes AFAIK, unless you've got a whopping big cache , but there are a couple of other things standard in the Sata II spec, NCQ, etc....although I believe the Raptor 150 has this, instead of the TCQ that older raptors brought to the table?
Raptor 150Gb has the so called SATAII. But i'd go for 500Gb of Samsung.
Primary kit:
Fuji S5 Pro - Nikkor AF 50/1.8 - Nikkor AF 85/1.8
Epson RD-1
Film Kit:
Leica M3 - Summicron 50/2 DR - Zeiss ZM 25/2.8 - M-Rokkor 40/2
Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8
im looking for as cheap and as fast as pos, not that bothered bout size as dont have much on PC other than steam. it was the hard drive, they were both fooked.

The Raptor is an expensive drive - definately one for enthusiasts. It is certainly the fastest out there but you only get 150Gb for your money.
The Samsung is a good choice and would be considerably quieter than the noisy Raptor.
If you want silence and capacity go with the Samsung.
If you want performance and reliability go with the Raptor.
the smaller raptors are going to be available soon if not now, they are the wd360adfd and wd740adfd (replacing wd360gd and wd740gd)
Why would you want a new "smaller" Raptor? Or rather, why would WD want to produce a new 36Gb drive - surely there wouldn't be enough demand.
Because it's cheaper.
OK, it's not got a huge amount of space, but with most, if not all, of the speed benefit still there, it's ideal to put Windows and your main applications on...
im still torn betweent he 2, im thinking 74GB raptor or 2 150 spinpoints.

Hopefully the new 36gb raptor will be a single platter

i wouldnt bother with a 36gb raptor, the raptor 150gb still uses sata 1 iirc
.hting is i dont acctuarly store much on my PC, just use it for gaming really,

The Ratpor still outperforms SATA II however. I don't think SATA II makes much difference yet - newer drives in the future might be able to make better use of it but not at the moment IMHO.Originally Posted by Pie_uk
