Conroe, who's buying it?

Currently running a 3.2ghz northwood p4 so I will probably move to conroe a few months after its release and update my aging machine.

I'm considering wether to keep an intel system in my media PC or not. If I can upgrade my motherboard first to a conroe compatable one for a decent price, then I'll upgrade. 34W would be nice in a media PC, I could have it running almost fanless... maybe just PSU and CPU fans. Pity it doesn't support dual core, or I'd buy an 805.

But for my gaming rig I'm just going to get an AMD dual core when everyone starts selling them (come on!) for conroe... or if I see a bargain.

Unless there will be noticable (not 5fps) gains in games with an X1900XTX gfx card, then I will stick to what I have.

I guess if Conroe really is as powerful as people are saying, we will soon see just how gfx card limited todays games are

Also, its important to distinguish 10fps gains in the 40-50fps region or the 150-160fps region.. gaining heaps of fps there really translate to nothing when the human eye wont notice those improvements..

I'll wait for K8L before making any sound judgement... and I'll probably swap my 3200+ system for a cheapo X2 3800+ / 4200+ (higher multi) after the price slash..

I'll either buy a conroe/ram/mobo or just get a mobo and 939 4600 dual core.
