With the Conroe CPU looking good, who's going to go over to the other side and buy one when it becomes available? I will be looking at it seriously.
I have always used AMD but it looks like i may be jumping ship!

Well i think ill be getting a new system in a years time, im hopeing for quad core! However i imagine i will be building for customers.
koolpc, conroe is out now, however it will be an engineering sample, have you looked at the AXE motherboard. as long as its rev 304 it will work with conroe.
I am buying conroe, since I wanted to get AMD 64 long time ago but didnt have the money until recently, but now I am waiting for it to come out
If I get a desktop for uni next year then I will probably get one.
Seems like the way to go. Looks good so far. I will wait a while to see what people have to say about it.
I want to buy Conroe, but apparently my 955x mobo doesn't support it :( (Rev 1.02)
What should I do? Keep the Pentium D and buy ANOTHER rig? Or sell it? (Wouldn't be too economical IMO)
I am hoping Conroe is going to be an ace CPU. Wouldn't mind going back to Intel again. Especially if they have a super chip!

arthurleung, that link above is an intel board which is revision 304 which means it supports conroe (when its out) and for the time being will support your pent D :)
Doubt it. I game at 1600x1200, i can't see Conroe making much of a difference. Ill definatly be getting a DX10 card and Vista though. Im sure my 4400+ and board will last me another year yet.
doubt it...I'm not going to upgrade for another year or so....
I'll definitely be buying it! A big step up from my current 1.8ghz P4 that is now about 4 years old!
My PII400 is coming to the end of it's life (yes I get the most out of it) and I'm looking at building a new PC this year, I've currently spec'd out a AMD X2 4200 based PC, but if it's true about the performance than I will look at a E6600 based system instead as looking at the trade prices a Conroe E6600 wil be cheaper than a 4200X2 and I expect it'll retail for £200 if the exchange rates stay as they are for the next few months.
May be i'll buy Conroe if AMD have no equivalent around September time. Have used Intel for years lo, finally a switch i guess
X2 for S939 was what I was planning on upgrading to but I'll be video-editing at Uni so who knows now...
Just wait to see what people think of the Conroe first.
