Hello people i need some advice i want to buy two new hard drives to set up in a raid 0 configuration hopefully no smaller than 160gb (no raptors please)!
Any ideas which ones i should go for?
The Hitachi Deskstars are damn quick, mine work great in RAID.

Spinpoints if you like quiet with speed....
Do you want this RAID-0 array for lots of space (i.e.: a file slave volume), or do you want it for speed (master volume -- OS & programs)?
I've got a SATAII Spinpoint and Dfi Ultra-D and can confirm that the Dfi supports SATA II.Originally Posted by leeglf
Deskstars don't work at SATA-II speeds out of the box, Hitachi gets you to use a floppy to turn it on to enable SATA-I boards to use them with it off.

I've read a bit about raid 0 before and it seems that you don't notice that much of a gain in performance for general desktop duties and in games (load times etc) but obviously you can't beat it for transfer rates!Originally Posted by leeglf
A good article about it on StorageReview:

i think i have pretty much decided that 2 of these will be the best option unless anyone else has an ideas?

I find it really helps my load times for stuff like BF2.

I am gathering parts for a new computer that I'm going to build once Conroe capatible motherboards and the Conroe CPU is released. So far I have a CM Stacker case, a 150 GB Raptor (thinking of buying another for RAID), and a PC Power and Cooling PSU. I'll continue buying parts as I can afford to until I get all I need. Notice that I am going to use at least one Raptor in this computer also. I've had very good service out of every one that I've owned.
