Therefore, it won't fit. At all. And it's a different pin config to regular 940 boards, meaning you *will* need a new processor.

Correct me if I'm wrong - I've been away for a while!

I'm sorry but, if you read what I had posted you would notice that I have the AM2 processor and the AM2 motherboard, which are obviously compatiable with each other.

On the other thought, I really don't have the patience to wait until the end of July for building a new computer. AM2 and DDR2 is what the basic components my setup will contain. DDR2 being the memory of the future, which will probably complement Vista when it is released, as well as the AM2 socket, which the chip is only $140. I'm sure AMD will release more powerful and competetive processors to match Intel's upcoming Conroe, so I'm really all not so worried about going Intel.

    Thanks.

I think you should wait a little. Not that long to wait!

Yeah, sorry, I mis-understood the original post - "The processor I have is a 3000+. I'm not sure if it will be compatible or not."

As he was a new chap, I thought he may be one of these "Why won't my PCI card fit my AGP slot?" types, but he isn't! He obviously knows what he's doing. Anyway, that's OT.

And Joe - My advice is definatelf to wait! I know it's ages, but this winter would really be the best time.

Well I went ahead and went with the chip. I know this winter would be the optimal time to make a purchase, because AM2 chips will probably be somewhat mature and the bios for the motherboards will allow the am2 sockets to work at optimal capacity and such. It's not like it was a huge loss at that. I only spent $109 on the processor, which isn't a huge loss. I'm sure by winter, AMD will have released much faster, possibly 65nm chips by then possibly. Either way, this will get me through the summer and then some.
