Sorry to hijack but lots of people here who have them. With the Akasa Amber fans, do they actually have an LED, or is it just the color of the fan blade?

**EDIT** Thanks Buff Want to avoid flashy lights and stuff in my next PC... looks nice but is a pain when you leave your PC on overnight in your room lol

The Yate Loon 120mm Blue LED fan I bought from him didn't like being put in the horizontal position (like in 120mm fan psu's) but works fine in vertical position as case exhaust. At least one other person had the same problem as I did with the same fan.

The black fans are fine AFAIK. I have a D12SL 120mm and the 80mm I had one was given to someone else and that was fine as well.

I had read the Panaflo (now replaced by NMB-MAT - check out www.dorothybradbury.co.uk) 120mm aren't as good as the 80mm Panaflo's.

The 80mm L fan was one of the best IMO and according to some on silentpcreview.com.

Panaflo's QC seems to have slipped in recent times. You can get really good, nice and quiet batches of their fans, and then go through hell for a while, chucking 9 out of 10 fans out due to vibrations, motor noise etc...

You could try pure silence 120mm, its much quieter than my silenx one. I think they are a little bit more expensive than the akasa ambers, got mine of ebay

Its because the Yate Loons are sleeve bearing fans, which work better in a vertical position. They also degrade quicker over time, and as such will increase in noise (as is usual with all fans, but these even more so). If you want ones that last longer/work better in a horizontal position go for the Nexus fans. Same company, but they use ball bearings instead. Very good fans (though not cheap...)

Nexus are sleeve bearing as well. The Nexus is a Yate Loon D12SL 120mm with resistor I believe (information gleaned from silentpcreview.com forums).

Have you compared the Pure Silence to any other fans? In the market to get hold of another 120mm fan. Currently thinking of the Sharkoon Golf Ball fan.

    Thanks.

Based on the sharkoon noise levels I would say they both would be very similar however the pure silence fan will shift much more air 40cfm vs 20cfm.

I thought you actually owned the fans?

I've bought a Sharkoon 120mm 1000rpm fan from Scan. I've compared it to the other quietest fan which I have - a Aerocool Turbine 120mm.

At lowest voltage around 5v the Aerocool shifts more air (surprisingly), couldn't feel any air from the Sharkoon.

At highest voltage around 12v the Aerocool is a just a bit noisier than the Sharkoon. Both are quieter than the other fans I own, which are

    Yate Loon D12SL
    Yate Loon D12SM Black
    Yate Loon D12SM Blue LED
    SilenX 14dba 120mm

The Akasa Amber 120 was good to start with but when compared to the others it is a bit louder.

Edit: will have to read up on the Pure Silence fans. After investing in the SilenX 14dba fans I take some of the claims of high cfm at very low dba with a pinch of salt.

Hi, no I have pure silence and silenx fans.

I have previously used akasa led fans but they seemed to be made of very brittle plastic, I managed to crack one corner with the self threading screws

A good one with a blue led would be fantastic and the price gets around 7£, not bad at all

I tried the Coolermaster Blue LED 120mm fan from Scan. It's replaced a Aerocool Turbine as a psu fan at the moment. The Aerocool are quieter but don't push as much air as the Coolermaster fan.

The Coolermaster was under £5 with free delivery as part of a larger order.
