Got hold of a Barton2500 week 32.Now open for suggestions re MB.

I know that the majority of you guys favour Abit,though some have Asus and some MSI.

Could you kindly give idea as to what I should look for.I have one pet aversion and that is Via chipsets.

Any nForce2 mobo should do you well, preferably you want Ultra400 for both certified 400FSB and Dual Channel DDR (2 sticks equals a 5%ish boost). Also worth a mention is nForce2's optional MCP-T / Soundstorm (vs plain old MCP) which gives you top consumer sound at a tiny additonal mobo cost, well worth getting. If you want minimum hassle and top SktA mobos there's little doubt that either Asus A7N8X Deluxe or Abit NF7-S v2.0 are where it's at. nForce2 is really your only choice as you surely want 400FSB, SiS748 lack tweaking options while (as you know) VIA (eg KT600) are quirky. Basically with an unlocked XP2500+ any 400FSB mobo with multiplier adjustment will more than do ... just depends if you want max tweakability, stability and perf.

I think I would like to get a Abit NF7S but they are not available here in Calcutta India.Also support is a problem. For the time being I will go for an a7n8x mobo and hope to have it up and running by the week end.

What are the reasons for the Abit's popularity over and above the ASUS and the MSI? .................Really.

Apart from the "I like Abit argument", what are the reasons/differences?

The Abit is simply known to be a notch better when it comes to o/c'ing, tweaking and even simpler things like good compatibility with RAM. It isn't all sunshine and roses though as Abit's NB fan is dire and the layout is poor. As said the Asus is a top alternative while both Epox and MSI won't be far behind.

You may want to wait a few days before order, Abit `s new Nforce 2 Ultra Board The AN7 will be out any day now for about the same price you can pre order form OCuk if you are ok with the price at the moment, £ 80.00 +.. will be coming down in price next week about £10.00 less. Also Should be a better overclocker also has a optical spdif in and out port.
Thinking about mobo upgrade looking to go P4 but an extra £100.00 (motherBoard / CPU ) to do it don`t know if worth it for the prefs. may stick with AMD and just a new AN7. hope this helps

Abit is favoured by many due to it allowing northbridge voltage adjustments, which the Asus does not offer. IT also offers Vcore up to 2.3 rather than 1.8, and allows you to set the fsb higher (225 vs 215 i THINK). It is Also a little cheaper.



PLUS ABIT IS SO MUCH COOLER THAN THOSE ASUS DONKEYLOVERS AND THEIR FAT WOMEN
