    Cheapest Possible 939 Motherboard?

I need a socket 939 motherboard as a stopgap while my dfi is being rma'd again

i need it to have at least 1 x pci-e 8 or 16x, accept a dual core opty (not fussed about overclocking much as its only temporary). a few usb 2 would be nice, sata is needed.

im not bothered about onboard sound, firewire etc.

been looking at the asrock ar939. never had anything by asrock before so not really sure.

    any suggestions welcome.

now to find a decent soundcard that will work with this stinking dfi board..if i ever get it back!

    cheers

I think ASrock are the budget wing of Asus, so that can only be good. Several mates have just built systems with their DUAL board and they've all gone swimmingly.

The 939Dual is a cracking board. Can be had for about 40 notes from scan.

I think Abit UL8 is alot cheaper at about 28 quid. I'm not quite sure about the performance though.

You can get an AX8 V2.0 for £41 on Today Only or indeed the Gigabyte K8NMF-9 at £39 is a decent wee board - in fact I would take it over the Asrock DualSATA.

for anyone interested in buying one of these, they look like really good build quality, in fact, looks more solid than my dfi (awaiting flying daggers), i stuck the opty in and its been priming at 2500 for a few hours. i know 2500 isnt amazing, but the chip is a replacement from amd so i have no idea what it can do yet. and its on the stock hsf.

only downside i have found is that the power led pins are a different size to the plug on my case, but as its sat on a box out of the case, i dont really care.

oh yes. and the vcore only goes up to 1.4 with the bios that comes with it, but i think modded bioses are available.

so overall, its a thumbs up at the moment
