    New laptop less than £600

    Hi guys,
I'm looking for a laptop with a good battery life, at least 3 hours and a decent spec, would be nice if I could play games on it but not the most important thing.

    Anyway the must haves are

    512mb ram
    long battery life
    dvd writer
other things that you think are appropriate

on a side note I know more about desktops than I do about laptops hence the question, I don't know what is a bargin and what isn't

    thanks for the help

Good general purpose machine, ZERO gaming potential.

About £90 over budget, but has better graphics (OK for older games).

Hell at that price point just about everyone is flooding the market with machines with integrated graphics.

Thats got a turion ML series processor - they are basically rebadged semprons and eat a lot of electricity [35W]. If you get a turion then its best to try and get an MT series chip as they are only 25W so you would get better battery life.
I seem to remember from a review that the Lenovo C100 has very good batery life.

iv got a travelmate 3201xmi at the min and id take on alomst anyone (bar aluminium/magnesium cases) in a game of laptop conkers. other experience incluse toshiba libretto's, IBM somethingorothers, and generic hi-grade crap. so take my comments with a very small pinch of salt

    Time to close this thread

I ended up going for a dell 640m with 1gig ram 1.66ghz dual core and intel gma 950 gfx

not amazingly brilliant but its fairly light and gives 8 hours batter life (battery life was a major factor for me)

You won't go far wrong with that, I'd have thought.

Nice choice. I have a 630m (got it cheap-cheap before the 640s came out), but aside from the CPU, they're essentially the same thing. I'm quite happy with mine.

    Another Inspiron 630m owner here.

With the standard 6 cell battery I can easily get 5 hours from it. Regret not going for the 9 cell battery now.

Came with a 1.73GHz Pentium M, 2MB Cache CPU and integrated Intel GMA graphics. Don't use the laptop for gaming so its plenty fast for my needs.
