To the naked eye - probably no noticeable difference....if you decided to install XP to the new SATA drive, then boot time may reduce slightly.
In summary, benchmarking software would detect a slight speed boost, you probably wouldn't.
When I went from IDE to SATA I didn't realy notice and major improvement, some but nothing huge.
If you want the new drive as you need extra storage then I would move the os over to the SATA drive.
I always find a brand new drive "seems" faster than an old one anyway, I sure newer drive have faster transfer speeds etc
Yea as above really, you wont really notice a difference
Is it worth the hassle?
Probably not...
I think i'll just keep this drive for storage and buy a new drive later on in the year. Maybe a raptor?
the fact that its serial doesnt mean anything, it just depends on how old the seagate actually is
You won't see any 'Real world' difference.
I think the same, but thinking about it a bit more - I normally re-install what ever version of windows I'm currently up to ... wonder what has given "the speed up" to the system :)Quote:
