Help needed specing a VPS box

Hi all, i need a machine to be used exclusively for handling Virtual Private Servers, basically it will be my test bed.

I want something very small and compact that packs a punch yet isnt loud or prone to running hot, and above all is reliable.

My main requirment is the ability to house 4gb of memory and a dual core proc, unfortunately every SFF system I look at only allows for a maximum of 2gb of memory. Asus make a vintage system capable of holding 4GB but it is AMD based (I wanted to go Intel simply to get a cheap 805 and overclock it). URL: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal..._Asus_101.html. If I was to go AMD, with a x2 proc fit into any 939 mainboard or does it have to say it will accept x2 procs?

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

All help and tips would be appreciated!

    Thanks all,
    Taz

I would say that a cheap 805 overclocked would be prone to running hot!

I am running an Aspire X-Qpack case with an Asus Micro-ATX motherboard in it and a dual core Athlon X2 4400. The 120mm case fan could do with a fan controller as it runs flat out all the time, but then frankly it runs so cool I might just disconnect it.

Downside is that the case I have is red fronted with side windows, and for home use it a tad Pimp for my taste

Ooh, I notice Asus do a socket AM2 version of that board that is rated as 8GB max memory, using 4x2GB sticks. Not sure where you could buy the motherboard or 2GB DDR2 memory of course
