recommend me a dvd writer

Looking for some help in which machine you are all going with at the moment, i only use it for general burning and don't really knoiw whats the in flavour at the moment?

currently im using a Pioneer 111 which im VERY happy with - i also purchased a NEC 4571 for my backup rig and again no complaints at all.

I suppose it all depends on what you need it for, like you said if its just for general burning then you can prob save urself a few quid, or you can get one of the newer models with DVD-RAM, labelflash on there as well

There are so many out there at a similar price, I don't think I could recommend one over the other, I am using a Samsung SH-S162L/BEBN

Yeah i agree with furkan, The samsung has lightscribe so I would personally go with that and also it hase very good write speeds

Using both an NEC and a Sony on diff systems both excellent, go for the cheapest on somewhere like scan.

tbh which every one you go for your going to get pretty much the same thing, they all read/write at the same speed, some do lightscribe/DVD-RAM it all depends what your after at the end of the day

NEC drives hands down, have had 2 computers with one in and I've had not one problem.

Then again, the reliability of most major drive makers have gone way up since the old days, so you will probably be fine with any name brand you get.

Remember, though... one of the MOST important things about optical drives is the firmware. The original releases ALWAYS have bugs... bar none. It's almost better to buy a year-old model because the newer firmware versions have already been released and are available to download.

until yesterday i would have recommended the LG GSA 4167BAL, stuck one in my new build and it had performed flawlessly - cheap, good burn speeds, reaonsably quiet. however, it's bricked itself after only 3 months. system still picks up the drive etc, mechanics still work but it doesnt spin the drive up.

another vote for NEC.

Gave up on LiteOn drives a year or two ago & never looked back

Very quiet drives (mine is in my HTPC) & lots of customised firmwares too

I like the NEC myself
