I am just about to buy a G5 after getting recommendations on here. Looks like a very nice Mouse. I want to stay with a corded one after seeing problems with Cordless ones.

G7 is meant to be improved over some wireless mice, (it's meant to be lag-free for instance, which I notice terribly on mice like my MS Elite Bluetooth sets)....having said that, I don't own either, so I can't give a first hand account.
I think there are still some issues with the G7 and Icemat pads, which have been fixed with the G5 through a firmware upgrade. It's a small point, but something to think about if you use that type of surface. (That's why I haven't taken the plunge yet)

Ive used the MX510 MX518 MX1000 G7 and G5, and G5 is IMO the best mouse on the market, unless uwanna go the razor route which is a acquired taste. If u go for any of the mice mentioned i really do suggest a cloth mat. Something like a Everglide Monstermat or a Razor Mantis mat. They glide so nice on them, and only cost under 30 from 1moregame.co.uk

If you are looking for longevity, then avoid anything that uses lithium batteries (especially non-replaceable ones) since they tend to die out after 2-3 years, whether you use them or not. As such, I'd suggest the older (and cheaper) MX700 which takes AA batteries - if you have a good quality recharger, you can dispense with the power adaptor and just use the base station as a mouse holder.

tbh anyone that thinks not to buy the g7 because its wireless is stupid, this mouse has zero lagg i can move it faster side to side than you will ever need to and its fine, also there isnt anything on the g5 that the g7 doesnt have so there are no more feautres just differnt finish and a cord, all your paying for basically is a cordless g5 imho

cpu chimp logitech havnt made a mouse with 200 dpi at 60 quid orwatever it is so that t laggs lol 15 quid microsoft ones lagg not 60 quid top of the ranges logitechs

Interchangable weights come with the G5, which are actually very good, and ver yhandy as the mouse alone can seem light to some people, and back heavy for me, so i added heavy weights in the front and it was awesome. Also the grip finish on the G5 is better than the G7

personaly i went for the MX1000, because of its grip and shape, and how well it fits the hand. although it is heavier than othe rmice such as the G7 i prefer it because it is easier to pick up, its nott he weight which is guna break ur hand, it may be like 2 grams heavier or what ever butt he way its made makes it easier to move roudnt he matt.

I have to say you get used to whatever you use. The MX1000 is heavy for a mouse, but nothing you won't get used to. And I use it for games (including 'twitch' games like Half-Life 2/UT2004), and its fantastic. People say that corded mice always have the advantage, but I always found myself pulling on the cord to free up some slack when gaming. With a cordless mouse, this obviously isn't an issue. Plus, they're much better for watching DVD's etc.. where you can chill on you bed/wherever, further away than a corded mouse would allow.

Always going to come down to personal prerference I guess, but since I got my cordless mouse and keyboard, I'm never going back.
