Recommend me a SATA RAID card please.

It can be PCI-X or PCI-e ( I have an SLI board and am only using one x16 slot for graphics).

It should have a minimum of 6 SATA ports.

    It should support RAID 5.

It should put little or no overhead on the system itself - this is probably the most important requirement.

    All suggestions greatfully received.

    Thanks.

with 150 quids you can't buy a hardware raid card of recent generations.

You could go for something like Megaraid 150-6x, but those are horribly slow as they're the stuff from a few generations ago.

I would recommend Areca ARC-1220, LSI Megaraid 300-8x, Promise EX8350 Or Adaptec SAS cards.

If you want the speed, and have only 150 quids, something like Highpoint RR2320, 1820A will be your best bet, there will be some overhead but not really that much. (Today only offer on SCAN)

My budget is flexible but around between £100 and £200 would be good.

Would say at least 300+ for a proper hardware raid card...

Was originally going to be for that Epox but I think I'm going to pop it into an old intel board I have knocking around in light of this very fact. As it happens, I don't have anything else on the PCI bus but I'm planning to put the box under the stairs once it is setup and would prefer to keep the Epox under my desk.

Now to find the spare cash for Shaithis's card...
