I'm hopefully going to be ordering this CPU on Friday but would appreciate some views on it from people who already own one.
Cheers!!

I dont own one but why not go for the 3800X2? Will you be overclocking?
Not much to say about the processor, Personally I would save some money with the 3800x2 and get 2GB of ram.
Thanks.
I've no plans to overclock although I may try to see what I can get out of it. Do you really think I would be better off with 3800+ and increasing my memory?
The 3800, should do 4200 speeds easily, I would wait, price cuts already happening, and supposed price cuts 3rd week July, read various forums that the 3800 will get a good whack off it
Not worth it atm, wait for price cut and get a 4400 or 3800
Primary kit:
Fuji S5 Pro - Nikkor AF 50/1.8 - Nikkor AF 85/1.8
Epson RD-1
Film Kit:
Leica M3 - Summicron 50/2 DR - Zeiss ZM 25/2.8 - M-Rokkor 40/2
Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8
TBH, I'm not very good at waiting for things. I don't mind what I have to pay as long as it's reasonable. I've made my decision(months ago) to order this Friday regardless.
I would get this-

Any more suggestions on what to buy will be greatly appreciated?

the 4200 isnt that good as its basically just an oced 3800 because of same amount of cache.. I would go for the 4400 or the 3800 and overclock it.
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ
3dmark05 - 13140 | 3dmark06 - 6698 | SuperPi 1M - 15s
Ditto as above, I have exactly was Noni suggested and am very happy with it. Saved me a lot of cash and a very easy overclock has given me fx-62 speeds and performance.
I agree with everyone else. Id either go for a 4400+, or save money and grab the 3800+, they clock nicely.
50% off should help you holdOriginally Posted by Matt_2000_17

I have the 4200, got it a while since, when the 4400 was too expensive and i aren't prepared to overclock yet so i wanted something faster than the 3800. Anyway its a good processor and it performs very well with the rest of my setup. May overclock it in the future when it appears to be slowing down, but that won't be for a year or two yet.

I've also been thinking of an alternative. A mate of mine has just got a new system based on the AM2 and it has made me think about taking that route. I've had a look at some of the hardware available and came up with this:
Motherboard
CPU
Memory
What do you guys think?
I know the memory isn't the fastest available but I can upgrade that to the 800MHz at a later date.

Don't go AM2. Conroe or an X2 on 939.
