Bought a xvid compatible dvd player at my local co-op store for 27.99,bloody steal!
Worth thinking about, converting becomes a real pain pretty quick.
I have one of these too, but it's not so good - looses sync sometimes. I've found my hacked xbox much better.

The divx/xvid compatible players are great so long as the manufacturer patches them regularly. Biggest problems I have had with them are audio sync and subtitles.
I bought the very first divx player (its a lite-on) almost 3 years ago.... still plays 95% of my movies.... to which i must say wow.
Whats funny though is it stopped playing retail dvds after 6 months - it only reads dvd-r's !nSo if i buy a film and want to watch it in my bedroom - i have to copy it..how loopy is that.

My mates X-Vid one £30 from scan, nortek or something is very good. Slghlt lag when decodeing HD to display on a normal TV but still very watchable.
I always use DVD Santa - pretty quick at converting as well.
I bought a DVD player a while ago just on the basis that it supported DivX and of course the more popular open source varient - Xvid.
The manufacturer stopped support last year, but that's not effected the playback quality on it one bit really. Great picture and never has a problem with single and multiple files on a disc :)
It is the ever popular Ellion DVX-520 and it's still going strong.
Saved me countless hours converting and cheaper too as CD-R's are cheap as chips now :devilish:
I've got a lovely Ellion player (and DVD recorder) as well :)
Got a Draytek dvd player from Scan for £30 and plays everything and has many options usually found on more expensive players.
Daytek I think :)
