    Fastest AGP card

Decided to wait til Jan for my conroe upgrade for various quite obvious reasons, as such I will need a new AGP card to tide me over as my current one's fan has gone a.o.t. and it's slow anyway (9600 Pro)

What cards do you recommend and where can I get them? Many thanks in advance.

    Oooooo....the choses!

From the raw power point of view, your 9600pro could kick out 1600 MTex/sec. It was shader model 2, with 4 pixel shaders and 2 vertex pipelines. If it only has to last you til Jan with the latest games, and I'm guessing you'll be wanting a PCI-E card come January, how about a NVidia 7300 GT? It won't break the bank, cost you between £40-60, kicks out 2400-4600 MTex/sec (depending on the clock of the one you get), so pretty much doubling your cards potential, supports shader model 3, with its 8 pixel shaders and 5 vertex pipelines? Will play Oblivion, FEAR and (hopefully!) NWN2 fine?

As to where to buy, all the usual suspects, Scan, microdirect, dabs, ebuyer, ccl etc. etc.

Here's one, on the slower end, but good value, AGP:

    Above post is spot on.

Also consider the AGP x1950pro which should come out soonish.

Spending £125 on a part that's only going to be used for 3-4 months max seems crazy - but then you might have more money than me to spend on computers!

Why not build a conroe rig now - what are you currently running?
